How to Get Your Ohio Driver's Permit (TIPIC)

In Ohio, all new drivers are required to obtain a Temporary Instruction Permit Identification Card (TIPIC) learner's permit (also known as temps) in order to begin behind-the-wheel driving training.

You can apply for your temporary learner's permit at your local Deputy Registrar License Agency.

You must be at least 15 and a half years old to apply.

Bring documents to prove:

If you are under 18, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who can provide proof of identification. You will also need to pay any associated fees for your Temporary Permit.

You will need to take a vision examination and a written examination before receiving your temporary permit. The written examination covers Ohio motor vehicle regulations and traffic signs.
